ARLINGTON, TX – A variety of popular musicians will perform free shows at the open-air Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Arlington, Texas, this summer thanks in part to the generous title sponsorship from hometown retail electric provider Texas Power.
The 2013 summer lineup includes artists such as rock band Atlanta Rhythm Section, local choral symphonic pop band The Polyphonic Spree and Texan singer-songwriter Radney Foster.
“We’re excited to partner with Levitt again and support their mission of bringing free music to the public,” said Texas Power vice president David Chase. “The pavilion is a hidden gem that offers a great experience – and the best part is that it’s free.”
Patti Diou, executive director of Friends of the Levitt Pavilion Arlington – the non-profit that runs the venue – expressed gratitude for Texas Power’s support.
“They’re a very important partner to us and they play a key role in bringing our concert series to the community,” she said.
Since only 13 percent of this year’s Levitt budget will be supplied by the national Levitt foundation, Diou and her team heavily rely on sponsorships, donations and grants from businesses and concertgoers to pay the artists and sound technicians.
Texas Power is returning for the third straight year as Levitt’s first and only title sponsor since the performance venue’s construction in 2008.
With the retail electric provider’s continuous support, Levitt grew its attendance to nearly 109,000 people last year, accounting for more than a 10 percent increase from 2011, and the venue was able to schedule at least 13 additional concerts in 2013.
Up-and-coming Americana folk rock group Delta Raeand indie artist Sarah Jaffe will kick off the summer season this Friday, May 24, at the start of the second annual Downtown Arlington Center Stage Music Festival. After Memorial Day weekend, there will be concerts each Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through July 14.
The Levitt Pavilion is located at in the heart of Arlington at 100 W. Abram St. with open lawn seating for up to 3,000 people. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and coolers, but no glass containers are allowed. For more information, visit levittpavilionarlington.org.
